7:00 - 7:10 SecKC 101 / Welcome to SecKC. TL;DR be nice, we say fuck a lot.
7:15 - 7:25 News - New news is new.
7:30 - 8:10 Log Management on the Cheap - Everyone needs to manage logs, even if they don't know they need to manage logs. But not everyone has the budget for a big, commercial solution. AsmodianX shows you how anyone can manage their logs, without a major investment.
8:15 - 9:00? SECURITY SYMPOSIUM ... first Gopher and now this? .. https://www.theverge.com/2021/4/22/22398156/university-minnesota-linux-kernal-ban-research
We're gonna try something new this month: active audience participation! Researchers at UMN recently found themselves in hot water with a variety of groups after publishing a paper on supply chain attacks wherein UMN researchers submitted malicious code to the Linux kernel. While we encourage you to research the situation and form some opinions before the symposium, we will begin with an overview of the incident and the aftermath thus far, followed by arguments for and against UMN's actions.
While these opening remarks and arguments are taking place, we encourage you to submit questions to our moderation team in discord - we will invite those who have questions into the zoom meeting being recorded and streamed live to ask their question and participate in the discussion from there on out. Our hope is that, by the end of the symposium, we all have a comprehensive understanding of whatever benefits or detriments posed by their research methods.
